In 2020, Microsoft committed to becoming a zero‑waste company by 2030, bringing teams across the company together to rethink how packaging is designed and scaled. By the end of 2025, that work reduced single-use plastics across all of Microsoft's hardware packaging to just 0.07%—with those changes showing up across the portfolio, including Surface. Surface is focusing on minimizing single-use plastics and reducing overall material use. We’ve phased out shrink wrap and shifted to fiber-based packaging, with 100% of virgin paper sourced from responsibly managed forests.
